Dear Tufts Community Member,

Please take a minute now to visit emergency.tufts.edu/alertupdate and confirm your contact information in TuftsAlert. On Tuesday, February 6 there will be a test of TuftsAlert.

The most important information you can provide is a text-capable mobile number, if you have one. Non-text mobile phones and landline phones can also be provided to receive voice-only notification messages. The information will remain confidential, used only to contact you during an emergency.

In the event of a significant emergency or dangerous situation, Tufts University may notify the community using TuftsAlert (emergency alert system). TuftsAlert is designed to notify students, faculty, and staff by sending text, voice, email, and desktop alerts with information that may be critical to your safety; however, you must provide your contact information to be included in the system. University procedures for emergency response and evacuation are published each fall in the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report at publicsafety.tufts.edu/asr.

Desktop Alerting
Running on your Mac or Windows computer, Alertus Desktop software can display a TuftsAlert message on your computer screen and may be faster than text messaging, email, or telephone. Desktop alerting has been installed on approximately 10% of university computers – mainly in public spaces – for this test. Following post-test evaluation, desktop alerting will be expanded to university computers more broadly.

  • Alerts for any campus will be sent to desktop alerting software on all campuses. This is different from text, voice, and email, by which you’ll receive alerts only for your primary campus and subscribed opt-in campuses.
  • Desktop alerting is one in an array of methods to spread critical information and it remains important to keep your contact info up to date in TuftsAlert.
  • Visit emergency.tufts.edu/alert/desktop for more information and to download Alertus Desktop to your personally-owned computer.

Opt-In Alerts
Two optional services allow you to receive text/voice/email alerts for Tufts campuses other than your primary campus, and to get a text notification in the event of a weather-related closing. Visit emergency.tufts.edu/alerts/opt-in for more information and to sign up for optional alerts and closing notifications.
