Friday, July, 1st, 2016 Announcements Emergency Alert System Notices
A warm welcome to members of SMFA joining the Tufts community. We hope in time you’ll explore the resources available on this site to help build our collective resilience to disasters and significant emergencies, but at the onset we want you to know about some important details about TuftsAlert, our emergency notification system.
We transferred contact information for as many people as possible from the SMFA Rave Alert system into TuftsAlert. Nonetheless, please confirm your contact information by logging in at emergency.tufts.edu/alertupdate using your Tufts username and password. Need help with your username/password? Contact the 24/7 service desk at 617-627-3376 or email it@tufts.edu.
Because of the interconnected nature of these two campuses, we made a configuration decision that alerts for either campus will be sent to community members on both campuses. We realize that the alert may not be relevant to many of you, but alerts are sent so rarely and for such critical situations that it seems appropriate to share with everyone on both campuses. The beginning of the message will indicate which campus is affected.
In the event of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of the Tufts community, Tufts University will, without delay, and taking into account the safety of the community, determine the content of the notification and initiate the notification system, unless issuing a notification will, in the professional judgment of responsible authorities, compromise efforts to assist a victim or to contain, respond to, or otherwise mitigate the emergency. (read the full Emergency Notification Policy)
This doesn’t happen very often, but when it does it’s critically important that you follow the directions and spread the word. After an initial alert the university may provide further information via additional alerts, social media, on www.tufts.edu, or on announcements.tufts.edu.
Weather closings, i.e., snow days, are communicated via a variety of means, but we don’t send an alert; however, you can sign up for opt-in text messages for weather closings and for alerts for other Tufts campuses.
