Strategic Plan for FY2022 - FY2026
The Multi-Year Strategic Plan for Tufts University Office of Emergency Management that follows was reviewed by the university's Emergency Management Program Committee on June 22, 2021 and approved by the Director Of Emergency Management on June 23, 2021.
Mission
The Emergency Management Program provides for management and coordination of university-wide prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, continuity, and recovery activities, and supports related school and department activities, for all hazards that threaten life, property, operations, or the environment.
Vision
A prepared and resilient Tufts University that has integrated emergency management planning, mitigation, response, and recovery across all schools and campuses through the central coordination of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM).
Strategic Priorities
Establish a robust Emergency Management Program for Tufts University
- Goal 1: Educate the Tufts community about the Emergency Management Program's role and responsibilities
It is important to educate the Tufts community on what emergency management is and to identify ways to work together.
- Goal 2: Maintain foundational planning and mitigation activities
Plans are integral to define organizational goals, roles, and responsibilities, and identify tasks, and resources, and establish accountability.
Build Emergency Management Infrastructure
The best plans are only as strong as the team identified and trained to carry out the actions.
- Goal 1: Rebuild the Emergency Management Program Committee
- Goal 2: Establish Emergency Management Groups on each campus
Reinforce Emergency Management Knowledge and Connect Promising Practices to the Tufts Community
- Goal 1: Establish a Training and Exercise Program
Training and exercise are foundational to reinforcing key emergency preparedness education and planning concepts. Training and exercise also provide an opportunity to build relationships and reinforce roles and responsibilities.
- Goal 2: Establish and maintain strong external partnerships
Emergency response begins and ends at the local level but is highly dependent on collaborative response partnerships. These partnerships are stronger and engrained when built during planning and mitigation activities, so they may be sustained during response and recovery.
- Goal 3: Maintain EMAP Accreditation
Tufts University first received Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) accreditation in 2017 and is due for renewal in 2022. Accreditation allows the program to be recognized for compliance with the standard, demonstrating excellence and accountability in emergency management, and supporting university resilience.
